The coast path from our gate: three walks, three lengths
An easy hour, a proper half day and the long one to the lighthouse. Where each walk goes, how steep it gets, and when to be back for dinner.

The South West Coast Path runs past the bottom of the garden, which is the main reason half our guests come. Here are the three walks we send people on most, all starting from the gate.
The easy hour: south to the cove and back
Turn left out of the gate and the path picks up within two hundred yards. It is about forty minutes at an easy pace to the headland above the cove, where there is a bench that faces straight out to sea. Come back the same way, or drop down the steps to the beach at low tide and walk the sand home.
Distance: 3 km there and back. Climb: gentle, one set of steps. Good for: the first evening, before dinner.
The half day: north to the harbour
Turn right and the path climbs steeply for ten minutes, then levels along the cliff top for most of the way to the next harbour village. Have lunch there (the fish shed on the quay does a crab sandwich worth the walk) and take the coastal bus back, which stops at the top of our lane.
Distance: 11 km one way. Climb: one hard section at the start. Good for: a clear day, and legs that want some work.
The long one: to the lighthouse
A full day, and one of the best stretches of coast in the county. It is a rollercoaster of valleys and headlands, with no shop or café for the last 12 km, so take water and the packed lunch we make up if you ask the night before (£14).
Distance: 22 km one way. Climb: about 900 m in total. Good for: experienced walkers in settled weather. We will book a taxi back for you.
Before you set out
Take something with grip on your feet: the descents can be greasy after rain. There is a rack of walking sticks by the door, a drying room for boots when you get back, and dinner from seven.
