Every room has lime-plaster walls, washed linen, a bathroom of its own and a view of the water. Prices are per room per night, from £135 in winter. Breakfast is £18 a guest if you want it.

The corner room the house was built around. A bedroom and a sitting room, both opening onto the sea, with a lime-plaster bathroom and a bath under the window.

The room under the roof, with a run of windows cut into the gable and nothing in front of them but water. Small, bright and the one regulars ask for by name.

Two east-facing rooms over the village rooftops and down to the working harbour. Morning light, a writing table in the window, and the best value sea view we have.

Ground floor and level throughout, with its own door into the walled kitchen garden and the sea over the top of the wall. Our step-free room, and the one dogs are welcome in.

Our smallest room and the one that costs the least. A good bed, a side window with a slice of the sea, and a warm dry place to come back to after the path.
