The Cove Suite takes up the south-west corner of the first floor, where the house turns to meet the cliff path. Two rooms, both facing the water: a bedroom with the balcony doors at the foot of the bed, and a sitting room with a sofa that looks straight out at the bay.
The walls are rose lime wash, the same finish as the hall downstairs, and they catch the light off the sea through the afternoon. In the bathroom the lime is burnished to a low shine and made waterproof, the way it has been done for centuries, around a deep bath and a walk-in shower.
Who it suits
Couples marking something, and anyone staying four nights or more. The sitting room makes a long stay feel like a flat of your own, and on a wet day it is the best seat in the house for watching weather come in off the Atlantic.
Good to know
The balcony is small, two chairs and a table, and gets the sun from about two o’clock until it sets. A child’s bed can be made up on the sofa for £35 a night, breakfast included.
