Porthevan without a car

The train to Bodmin Parkway, a taxi we book for you, and three days of walking, buses and boats. How to arrive and get around without driving.

A wide bay seen from the cliffs, turquoise water and green headlands

About a third of our guests arrive without a car, and we would like more of them to. Here is how it works.

Getting here

Take the train to Bodmin Parkway, on the main line from London Paddington (about four hours). We book a local taxi to meet you on the platform; it takes 35 minutes and costs around £55 each way. Tell us your train when you book and we sort the rest.

Getting around

  • On foot. The coast path passes the gate, and three good walks start from it. See our walks guide.
  • By bus. The coastal bus stops at the top of the lane, runs hourly in summer and every two hours in winter, and links the harbour villages either side of us.
  • By boat. From Easter to October a small ferry crosses the estuary twice an hour from the next village, which turns a long drive into a ten-minute crossing.

What we do to help

Guests who arrive by train get 10% off their room. We lend walking sticks, rain jackets and a small daypack, make up packed lunches, and will book a taxi for the one day you want to go further.
